Hi

Sorry to hear you are going through this. I dont really think any of us are qualified to answer your question. I think I would make an appointment to see your specialist and discuss it all with him.

i see my speialist on the 12th march, im newly diagnosed, & i fear taking the tablets is doing more damage!! my back is so painful that i cant not take the tablets, feel like im in a vicious circle!!!

I can understand that. Perhaps your specialists could work together to give you the best pain relief that would be the kindest to your liver.

Its true that none of us are qualified to answer but we can speak from our own experiences. I take 44 tablets/day. Its a mixture of anti-depressants; pain-killers, heart tablets - I take 9 of those per day. I'm lucky to have brilliant GPs and Consultants who listen to me. I've only had PBC for approx 5-6yrs but I've had Raynauds for about 25yrs. I've had fibromyalgia/arhritis/asthma for much longer. Depression I've had since 2000 and scleroderma about 8-9yrs. Feel like they should just erase me and re-draw. Not sure if any of this helps. Sometimes its comforting to know that others are going thru the same thing(s). Hope things ease for you. :-)

thx maggs, ive had 5 operations on my back & with each 1 my back has got alot worse, sometimes i look at the tablets in my hand (roughly 10 at a time) i just despair at what they must be doing to my insides, im 36 & have been taking the tablets since i was 30, i just feel isolated & alone sometimes, my husband who is my carer as well is fantastic, & my daughter is 2, but feel i need 2 talk 2 some1 who knows what im going thru! you have eased my mind so thank u, i really apprerciate it, take care :) x

My sister was taking a lot of tablets for pain relief, she too has had back operations. She was taken off the tablets and put on a slow release pain relieving patch (sorry do not know the name but I am sure your GP will know) she puts the patch on her arm on a weekly basis. It definately took the edge off the pain for a while but sadly after about 10 months her body got too used to them and she now has to take tramadol along with the patch.
